David Reilly of Palm Beach School District in Palm Beach, Florida, is offering computer classes with ILUs being awarded.
He told LERN that he will set up an excel sheet to keep record of the ILUs being awarded, and encouraged LERN to create an online database for storing ILU records. We will plan on doing that. Nice work David Reilly for your pioneering efforts with the ILU!

American National
Standards Institute (ANSI) is interested in the
ILU.Washington, DC
On May
31st Bill Draves presented a program based upon Nine Shift,
adjustments occurring in online learning and the impact on certification
programs to the Certification Network Group (CNG) here in Washington, DC.
Bill and I also offered a session
outlining the concept International Learning Unit (ILU). As a direct result of
those presentations, I was invited to participate on the inaugural ANSI Advisory
Panel on Personnel Certificates. The ANSI group consisted of representatives
from government, higher education, and non-profit organizations. They will
attempt to review and related issues to personnel certificates and consider
establishing possible national guidelines and standards. The International
Learning Unit (ILU) concept of competency based learning has caught the
attention of this Advisory Panel and has the potential to play a pivotal role in
the shaping some of their recommendation. Go to ansi.org for more on
ANSI.

New support for the ILU.
Over 50 members of the prestigious Certification Network Group met at the American Institute of Architects headquarters in Washington DC this summer to hear about the ILU.
Thom Lowther, Co-Chair of the ILU Council, and William A. Draves, President of LERN, presented the half day orientation.
The ILU concept received overwhelming support from those attending. "This is the right concept," said one. "This is exactly what we need," said another.
Georgia Patrick, head of CNG, was enthusiastic about the ILU and will be working with LERN to plan more such events promoting the ILU.
