More people than ever were at the outdoor reception in Chippewa Square. It is in the heart of the historic district, where Forrest Gump was filmed.  Beautiful Spanish moss on trees.

Russian attendees bring gift

For the fourth conference, we had Russian attendees from Moscow, Russia. Some of them even took the CPP exam !   Here they are presenting a gift to LERN at the conference reception.

Dan Belhassen a hit again

Dan Belhassen of Modern Earth did more great sessions.  Plus he built online classroom software for LERN. Plus he provides a great email vendor service for your program's emails. Here he is exhibiting.

When we looked outside the Convention Center window, we could see enormous ocean going freight vessels coming and going from China.

Bus Sign

For the first time, we had participants stay at six different hotels so they could get the room rate and amenities they each wanted. The City of Savannah provided free bus shuttle service each day to the Convention Center.

Why Aren't More Gen Xers CEOs of lifelong learning programs?

Why aren't more Gen Xers lifelong learning CEOs?
We want to hear from Gen Xers.

Two theories:
1. Baby boomers are not retiring, thus preventing Gen Xers from moving up to CEO positions in lifelong learning programs.

2. Gen Xers value family, friends, leisure time and do not want the increased work time that goes with being a lifelong learning CEO.

University of Auckland at Winter Institutes

I just wanted to thank you for all your preliminary work for me to make my time in San Diego so easy.  The institute was amazing and I have come home filled with ideas.  It was well worth the investment.

Director of Marketing hired

We're delighted to announce that LERN has hired Suzanne Kart of Bay City, Michigan, as our full time Director of Marketing.

A new position, Suzanne will be in charge of our direct mail promotions, recruiting new members, as well as other marketing responsibilities.

The new hiring is important in at least two ways:
1. Commitment to growth.
   The new position will help LERN grow, serve more people, and create more services for our existing members.
2. Gen X expertise.
   The hiring of Ms. Kart, a Gen Xer, represents LERN's commitment to serving our Gen X members. Suzanne presents sessions and writes how-to articles for the LERN Magazine on marketing to Gen X.

First Faculty Development Institute a huge success!

LERN Leaders from higher education should know we have a new LERN "side of the house."
It is faculty development.

Our first Faculty Development Institute, a 3 day training, was held a week ago in Savannah, Georgia. Some 46 participants from 15 states, about half four year and universities, half community colleges.

The Institutes trained faculty developers to go back and train faculty on:
* Engaging student learners
* Multiple assessments
* Generational learning styles
* Successful Online Audio Lectures
  and more...

We will do the Faculty Development Institute again in 2008. Plus we will be asking you to help us identify the person in charge of faculty development at your institution.
