Nine Shift in El Paso today

Nine Shift in El Paso today.007
Keynoting a west Texas association for lifelong learning conference.

The big new Nine Shift for 2008 presentation in Orlando got a terrific response earlier this month.
Will have excerpts and photos from it for you. Thanks for your support.

(Photo with President James LaCalle of Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland. Dr. LaCalle brought Nine Shift in for 250 community leaders to celebrate the college's 50th anniversary earlier this month)

Kids worried about adults

Adults profess to worry about the kids.
But kids are worried about adults.  Actually about American adults destroying the world.Plastic_tableware_2

Stopped by the grocery store for an item and turned down the offer of either plastic or paper.
Then I asked the check out girl if she ever thought about the future of the environment and she confessed she sure does.

Do you think kids are concerned about what American adults are doing to the world?
Know of any kids doing something to express their concern?

Nine Shift taking place in Georgia, says fan

"As always this year’s LERN conference was phenomenal, and the Nine Shift presentation, although a little scary for this aging Boomer, was exciting and right on the money.  My husband (who came along for the sun, if not for the theme park experience) and I arrived home to North Georgia Sunday evening after an 8-hour drive (how long would that have taken by rail?), and flipped on the evening news.  Stuck about half way through the newscast was an interesting tidbit.  MARTA, Atlanta’s public transportation system consisting of bus and train, has a new website, or at least some new features.  I just knew you would want to check it out.  The address is www.itsmarta.com.  From that website you can put in your origin and your destination, and pull up the route to get there on public transportation.  It can be sorted several ways, and once you choose a route you can drill down to get details, including exact walking directions and times at the origin, destination, and between transfers, and can print or download the route and take it with you.

OMG! The future is here in Georgia – Draves was right!

Have a great day, and, again, thanks to you and all responsible for a great conference."

AT&T takes a step backwards

Thanks to Jeff in Bay City, Michigan, for finding this:

"10,000 Telecommuters back on the road - AT&T and SBC contribute to global warming!!

via Freshly Hugged Stories by jlhgreen on 11/22/07

SBC and AT&T plan to force at least 10,000 workers back into their cars. The costs for fuel, pollution, and increased office space must be incredible. Even worse is the terrible example they are setting for other firms. A few years ago, my old employer used AT&T lines to support our telecommuting program. I will contact my friends in their IT department to encourage them to take their business elsewhere.

Let's shed some light on this act of corporate irresponsibility!!"

Younger docs use e-record keeping more

Younger physicians report using electronic medical records more than older physicians.Doctorplaying

The National Center for Heath Statistics reports that 44% of physicians aged under 35 report using full or partial electronic medical records.  That's opposed to physicians aged 65 and older, where only 18% of docs use e-records.

For doctors aged 35-44, 27%
Age 45 - 54, 25%
Age 55 - 64, 18%

Generational change will make all these changes happen. In 2020 the oldest Gen Yer will be 41, and the youngest Gen Yer will be 21.

Spending on cars at 25 year low

Denial in the auto business continues.Carsinwater

Detroit workers get laid off by the thousands last week.  But even more importantly, the statistics (thanks to Floyd Norris of NY Times for this story) that auto sales are at a 25 year low.

Over the last 50 years, auto sales have averaged 3.7% of the gross domestic product, but this year it's down to 3.1%.
