What do you think? Should students be measured based on objective testing, or on subjective evaluation?
The war is on! Educators are battling it out, fighting hard on both sides.
Objective testing. Have an outside assessment measurement independent of the teacher measure learning. Base it on knowledge.
Subjective evaluation. Have the teacher evaluate a student's learning based on critical thinking and emotional intelligence.
Let us hear your thoughts. What do you think?
Why either/or? Why not both?

Objective measurement works in Training while subjective (and individualized) measurement is better for Education. As I wrote in 2004:
"I think that one of the problems with our education system is that there is too much of a focus on getting quantitative data, like testing. These functions are more suited to a "training" system, where the performance requirements are clear, measurable and observable. In education, the performance requirements are fuzzy. There is nothing wrong with either a training focus or an education focus; each one has its merits. The problem is when you try to mix the two. The arguments that I hear over testing or the adoption of blogs in the classroom seem to be the result of mixing a training systems design approach with a general educational approach. Water and oil."

I believe that there is a need for both! As a former pre-school throgh college instructor (wide range!), I have seen at every level that there is high value in both forms of assessment.

Is it OBVIOUS that our country cares more about war than education?
I ask because of the amount of war funding since this thing began, and the lack of funding for education since I've been born. Now, I ask all of you all to set aside your political influence (If you can), bias and education, and tell me if I'm wrong.
