Email from a young teacher at a seminar Julie and I did last week:
Bill,
My name is Josh Watt. I attended your Nine Shift presentation at Facilitating the Future last week. First of all, I wanted to thank you and Julie for giving us copies of your books. I finished your book over the weekend and it was incredibly intriguing. The chapters concerning the shifts in education were especially interesting to me because your descriptions of the changes paralleled the changes I have experienced. At the time you published the book, I was involved in creating a charter virtual school in the Grantsburg School District. The story goes much deeper than I have time to write; however, I have experienced the changes you described in you book. I was a facilitator of such changes. Also out of that change, I created a hybrid classroom for all of my classes. I facilitated the change from a traditional class to a hybrid class. Again, the story goes much deeper than I have time to write (right now).
You mentioned that you are writing a new book. I would be happy to be a part of that process however you see fit. The shifts you described in your book are happening and I could be an advocate and testify to those changes in secondary education. On the down side, I do not know how many schools or teachers feel the same way I do, but even in my district, which I think is progressive on the technology front, has teachers willing to teach in a way meaningful to 21st century learners.
We can't imagine the Future of Education. With the time, Education will be imporve and harder. This is our think. But education has never end.
