I continue to be amazed about the Generation Gap: Boomers simply have no idea what Gen Y is thinking.
Today I was interviewed on radio about trains. The biggest surprise question was when the reporter asked me how many Gen Yers live in her city. I finally figured out she had no idea so I said Gen Y is the biggest generation in history and lives and will live everywhere. She had no idea.
We're up north, in woods, on a lake; 45 minutes from a stop light or McDonald's. Julie and I go out for a drink after the radio show, and we start to tell the bar/restaurant owner about the train interview. His 21 year old son moves closer and starts listening, nodding and obviously in tune with the whole train thing. He understands, even though he is about 250 miles from the nearest passenger train, and no passenger train is likely to come through the woods in his lifetime. But he gets it. He wants to ride a train, not drive a car. Just amazing these kids. And exciting. Photo: we found wild blueberries on our property this year. This week the end of the blueberry season, but raspberries are still going strong. Should be another good year for Julie's jam making.
I've been waiting to hear this news:
Congress will hear testimony about stopping Saturday mail delivery.
My Anti-Saturday bias stems from:
A. It's expensive
B. It's silly....we just get bills and ads. I can wait til Monday.
C. Conceptually, it's 20th c.
D. Actually, I think we should all go to the "end of the road" and
get our mail...like at Carlin cabin. Nancy's mom and dad live three blocks
from here, and they're in a new neighborhood I guess, so they have that
kind of Community Box, or whatever they call it.
So I had an idea if you want to Nine Shift blog about Saturday delivery...Mom
has told me some neat stories about her dad walking to the post office
twice a day...or maybe then there was twice-a-day delivery, I can't recall.
Well, I was just thinking if you call her and get some
1920s recollections they might juxtapose nicely
with the proposed Shift at USPS.
Not disgruntled,
Tim
