Prediction: the 1940s look will return.
Reason One. Gen Y very much admires the World War II generation, and reflects their traditional values and politeness.
Reason Two. The 1940s look in some ways reflects some of the look from 100 years ago, in 1912. Not totally of course, but certainly the long dresses and long hair.
What do you think?
Fashion in clothing is one of the most fickle things known to man, and women don't understand it any better (yes, we men should always love women, they put up with us and our bad jokes...).
I wouldn't put too much emphasis on clothes, although I will say I like what I would call a "semi-period" or "neo-period" look, and wouldn't mind seeing that stuff come back.
I don't know if you remember them or not (but I bet Julie does), but in the early 1970s, designers had gone about as far as they could with short mini-skirts, and came out with "maxi" skirts. Basically, this was a partial return to the Victorian age, with skirts that came down to the floor. I liked them, and thought they looked graceful, but then I'm a retro throwback in the biggest way. Most guys of the time hated them, they liked to look at skin and legs! Huff, huff, huff, huff!!
