A symbol of the young protest: wearing the bandana that young people wore in the Mideast Arab spring uprisings. These kids are not trying to hide their identity, but identify with their fellow young people in the struggle.

It's worth noting that the Middle Eastern protesters did attempt to hide their identities; they and their families potentially faced real threats from the police system there.
We are far, far less inclined to such an abuse of power here--but even I wouldn't claim we would be immune. That has been demonstrated in the past, only too well.
