TIme to start thinking: America in the Age of Descent, by Edward Luce, worth reading. He gets the problems, he gets that America is in descent.
In particular, Luce gets the foibles of Americans and provides the objective and insightful British view of America, an objectivity that Americans simply cannot see and do not get from our own media.
Unfortunately, even Luce doesn't get the solutions. He doesn't get manufacturing not returning. He totally does not understand young people, even though he has a young daughter, and goes out of his way to disparage and heap written abuse on kids. And he does not understand trains will replace cars in the U.S. Yet Americans should read it, even reading the title is a wake-up call for us.
