2012 is exactly like 1912, right down to a clear cut choice in the Presidential elections of both years.
In The Inside of the Cup, written in 1912 by the American author Winston Churchill, Churchill writes about a minister sent to a church of rich people, and then converts to helping the poor, getting kicked out of the church.
Every issue: business corruption, materialism, role of government, "socialists," inequality in wealth, exactly the same as today.
Both years 1912 and 2012 in the middle of the transition into the new economic age, with a need for new infrastructure and new social structures, a need for less inequality.
Churchill, writing in 1912 and understanding what was happening right then, concludes about the minister and his few reformers, "What these did not grasp was the fact that that which they felt stirring within them was the new and spiritual product of the dawning twentieth century - - the Social Conscience."
