Are foreign boys smarter than American boys? Congress apparently thinks so.
The new STEM immigration act will recruit the
foreign educated, while ignoring the millions of smart males here being kept
out of college.
Based on H-1B records, over 80% of foreign STEM workers in non-nursing fields are and will be males. Yet every year we keep 2 million smart American boys out of college, even though their test scores are the same or higher than students already in college.
As a consequence millions of parents will be asked to pay taxes to educate the foreign born, while their own smart sons are being denied the same education.
In every school and college, boys are given worse grades than girls, even though their test scores and knowledge are equal to that of girls. A recent OECD report called the United States one of the worst offenders of reverse gender bias in education.
To solve the STEM
crisis, Congress should enforce Title IX and support gender equity. Every girl
who wants to enter STEM should be welcome. So should every boy, even those
growing up here in America.
