Spring continues is very slow migration to the north and there are signs all around. Birds are returning that we haven't seen in a while (like the Flicker to the left), the deer normally hanging around my garage awaiting a handout have returned to the woods, spring peepers are serenading us to sleep at night and the trees seem ready to spill forth their annual leaf display. Although it still feels like the lake could re-freeze most nights.
No reports of marauding bears roaming the neighborhood looking for a few remaining bird feeders for snack food but they will show up sooner or later. With temperatures in the 60's during the day now docks are appearing in front of some homes others are waiting until the water temperature rises to above 32 degrees. (Sissies)
A new sign of spring this year takes place in a couple of weeks. The first annual southern migration of the Carlin Lake women as the book club heads to the Windy City for a few days of spending on Michigan Avenue. Take heart guys, you get to be in charge for a few fleeting days. Heck, you could even go wild and decide the bed really doesn't require making each and every day and that food will, in fact, wash off that frying pan if you don't soak it over night. Well, the latter you will have to wait to find out until she returns. Being in charge has its limits.
