The Friends of the Presque Isle (including some people you know) will be sponsoring the same fund-raiser that we did last year, this year on Thursday, July 8th. Some of you attended last year, and some made donations, I know.
The profits from "Evening in the Stacks" last year have gone into the fund to establish an elevator serving the library's lower level, making that area accessible to all. This year's profits will help advance that project, by providing funds to design and furnish that space for community use.
Until July 1st, reservations are $15 apiece, and after that date, will be $20. So, if you want to get under the wire and save $5, you need to get it done by Thursday. Stop in the library, call 686-7613, or visit the library's website to reserve your space.
It was a fun evening last year, and the food was good. The recent FYI also has a list of the items available for auction, if you are interested in that part of the fund-raiser.
Second topic: last night, Channel 12 news said that a Wisconsin law makes it illegal to use any fireworks that fly or go "boom." I didn't know state law was that stringent. But, then they went ahead to give safe use instructions for fireworks, so I think we were getting a mixed message.
But, I'm pretty sure that according to Presque Isle ordinance also, fireworks are illegal. So, as you prepare to celebrate Independence Day, make sure you are playing within the law.
