Veteran's Day is always worth commemorating! This year, though, I think it's more memorable because the holiday falls on 11/11/11, the only time that will happen in 100 years, till 2111. ( I guess none of us will be around to experience that one, huh?)
Let's express our sincere gratitude to our own veterans, the Carlin residents who served: Ricks Brewer, Bill Huemann, Danny LaPean, Jim Stocker, and Duanne Swift! As young men, they interrupted their lives to stand in for the rest of us. Thank you for your service!
We all read and hear about present-day veterans returning to find the current high rate of unemployment, unable to find jobs in civilian life. I find it sad that these young men and women face employment worries, in addition to the possible physical and mental difficulties, as they come home after their tour, or sometimes tours, of duty.
I've also read that only about 1% of American families have loved ones in American military service at this time. ---That's another reason, it seems to me, that we 99% need to do what we can to thank those who are serving and their families, and help as we can.
So, I was looking for a way to support returning veterans, and learned about the following program. Maybe you will also find it of interest.
A national organization called Welcome Back Veterans is sponsored by the Department of Defense, the Veterans' Administration, Major League Baseball, the McCormick Foundation, and other names that let us know this is a most reliable charity. Their mission, certainly a worthy one : "Committed to transforming the lives of our veterans, through ongoing support, treatment, and research."
Maybe this Veterans' Day, we might consider a donation to this organization, (or some other) and add concrete support to the thanks we give our Carlin veterans, and to all the thousands servicemen and women besides. Click this link or the one above, to take a look. Maybe this way of showing appreciation may appeal to you, too.
Carm,
THANK YOU for the gracious tribute to all Veterans, I am sure it will be appreciated by all who read the blog!
All the best,
Danny & Barbie

Woah! I'm really enjoying the template/theme of this blog. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's tough to get that "perfect balance" between usability and visual appearance. I must say that you've done a great job with this. In addition, the blog loads very quick for me on Opera. Outstanding Blog!
