Although it seems to me that 2012 just flew by, I still have had time to forget much that had happened. A quick look back at the Carlin blog over the year reminded me that we have had an interesting, fun, and eventful year.
*Did you remember that we had a big New Year's snow, on January 1st and 2nd? I recorded that we got 15-18" in that storm.
*Carlin women enjoyed a January dinner out, celebrating many birthdays. Do you think this should be an annual event?
*Friend Wally Krueger passed away suddenly in Florida.
*On February 28th, we had another big snow of 15" or snow. Then, the weather warmed, and the winter's snow was almost melted in two weeks.
*Ice on the lake surprised everyone when it disappeared by March 20th. Ramona was first to have her dock in the water on March 26th.
*The men's and women's book clubs were briefly called the Romeos and the Juliets. If you don't remember what that meant, click back to February 16th in the Archives to the right.
*Jim Luedtke survived an emergency trip to Howard Young Hospital and then to Wausau. He was very thankful both to our PI EMTs and to the Howard Young emergency services.
*On April 1st, we considered whether we could raise the level of Carlin's water, as well as providing additional fish habitat, by disposing of junked cars in the bottom of the lake.
*2012 brought the first state hunting season for wolves.
*Chuck Hayes was elected to the Vilas County Board.
*Local temps had warmed enough that our gardening zone was officially moved from Level 3 to the warmer Level 4.
*Carlin's bat population was measured three times this summer, in a project directed by the Discovery Center trying to stay ahead of white-nose syndrome.
*The Carlin fish committee worked much of the summer to construct and install fish cribs. Thanks to Cecil Davis and Mike Smith and the rest of the committe for this successful and useful project.
*The summer brought my favorite weather: warm, sunny days, and cool nights.
*We celebrated Bob and Pauline with a pre-wedding cake at our August ice-cream social.
*We thanked our neighbor Gail Speer for her many years of weather information, as she concluded her work on her PI weather blog.
*A moose visited the Hayes' front yard, joining other enjoyable wildlife sightings: loons, eagles, wolves, bobcats, otters, albino deer.
*The DNR's shocking survey, to determine fish species in Carlin Lake, was conducted this fall. Photos from that process were posted here on Oct. 15th.
*Warren and Mary happily reminded us that we must get an annual physical check-ups, and that it may possibly save our life.
This summary covers only part of what we enjoyed at Carlin all four seasons last year. If you have time to do more reminiscing, click back on the Archives button to the right, to see what other news was reported and to see photos of us all.
