A few weeks ago, when I was writing about the 20th anniversary of forming the Carlin Lake Association, I looked back at the documents we received at our initial meeting, 20 years ago.
On a list of activities that lake associations may assume, I noted that "Improve fish habitat," and "Stock fish" were among the items suggested.
I thought again how conscientiously our fishing committee has been working toward making the best decisions about Carlin's fishery, (Is that the right use of that word?) and thought this would be a good time to pass on our thanks for the time and effort these guys have been spending.
Unfortunately, as Cecil reported to us at the fall board meeting, the committee is experiencing some discouraging developments. This summer, the CLA authorized the committee to go ahead and secure permits from the DNR to be prepared for stocking. Those permits have hit a snag, (to use a fishing cliche!) as the representative from the DNR wonders if Carlin Lake "already has too many mouths to feed." He hasn't been supportive yet of permits for stocking.
I know these guys have not given up and will keep us informed as they learn more. Thank you from all of us to Richard Straus, Al Krassel, Cecil Davis, Chris Davis, Duanne Swift, and Mike Smith for their hard work and their respect for all of us who love and use Carlin Lake. (Please let me know if I have missed anyone from the committee.)
