You will have noticed that turtles are traveling across local roads to find sites to lay their eggs. (Not being able to read a turtle's mind, I'm guessing that is their reason.)
Folks who know say we should avoid hitting them with a car (uh, duh!) but that a person can also pick a turtle up with its head facing away, and carry it to the side of the road where it's heading.

They say that within the next 72–80 days, they can expect to have 8-12 baby turtles popping up!
(Our experience is that racoons are pretty experienced in finding those turtle eggs, so I hope this batch stays safe.)
