Any time of the year, it's harder to drive when the white and yellow lines on the highway have faded away.
But, when Hwy P becomes snow and ice covered---and when you are driving after dark----it doesn't feel very safe not to be able to see the side and middle lines.
This past week, Hwy P got spruced up, with lines re-painted, and is looking good for winter driving. We aren't in any hurry to get to those days, of course, but it's nice to know the roads will be ready when snow starts to fall.
Also concerning safe driving on Hwy P, last week the PI Town Board passed the following resolution 2-1:
“The Town Board of the Town of Presque Isle hereby requests that Vilas County post the speed limit on Hwy P from its junction with Hwy K north approximately to address 7470 at 35 mph and continue from that point to its junction with Hwy W at 45 mph."
If Vilas County officials would agree with the town of Presque Isle about this slower speed limit, drivers, bikers, and walkers might feel a little safer on this curvy and hilly county road.
