True story, from the Fourth Edition (new in 2013) of Advanced Teaching Online, by William A. Draves
Willie (my son) signed up for an online course at
his college. The teacher would not let the students into the online classroom
until the first day of the course (first mistake). On the first day the
students found out what the textbook was (second mistake), and Willie found out
the college bookstore did not have it in stock. On the second day the teacher
assigned work due that Friday and stipulated no late work, no excuses (third
and worst mistake). On the third day Willie did the smart thing - - he dropped
the course.
Question to you: after going through student
advising, registration, tuition payment, enrollment, getting password, being
invited to the online classroom, how much MORE would us taxpayers, the college,
pay for Willie to have completed the course? My estimate is zero. Your
estimate?
