Hi folks--just wanted to let you know that tomorrow I'll begin teaching a First Year Seminar at Christopher Newport University in Newport News VA titled "Office Space: Exploring How Gen Y Talks About Work". Our primary text? Your book "Nine Shift". I'm a Communication Studies prof and as I was looking for a thought provoking text I came across your website and decided to use the text to get these college freshmen thinking about the future of their worklife--and mine!! I'll keep you posted on how it goes--any thoughts you have on my grand experiment are most welcome. I'm a baby boomer--not yet very Internet/web savvy, but I'm going to get this class to bring me up to speed!!
All the best,
Claire Jacobs, Ph.D.
Comm. Studies, CNU

Clair, your course sounds fascinating! Would love to hear more about this project. What were the results of the course and how have your students reacted? I use the Nine Shift book as the core for a program I hold occasionally with A/E/C professionals around the country. The interactive program is titled, "Adjusting to the Shifts." We briefly discuss all nine shifts as outlined in the book and then zero in on one that most applies to their future. As a group they must come up with how the shift will effect their business practice over the next 3, 5, and 10 years. We have had great discussions! Would love to collaborate with you on promoting these issues through education.

I’ve actually forwarded a summary of your book to some students of mine (I am teaching a graduate course) and we were discussing how work will change based on your book’s insights.
